How National Preparedness Deters Adversaries
Ukraine’s rapid mobilisation against the Russian invasion is an example to democracies everywhere.

Rethinking the Western Alliance
Coordination between authoritarian states is increasing. So what does a revived and reformed Western alliance look like?

Do Sanctions Deter?
Russia successfully insulated itself from sanctions following its illegal invasion of Ukraine. For economic deterrence to succeed, allies must learn from the experience.

The West needs to wake up – NATO nations should be spending 3% on defence
The West wanted to believe that Putin would lead Russia into the international order. It was wrong.

The Case for Deterrence
After the end of the Cold War there was too little serious consideration of deterrence. That needs to change.
